LENTIL AS ANYTHING – SPANISH OMELETTE

This is one of two dishes I had when I visited Lentil As Anything in Newtown, Sydney for the first time recently.

I’m not sure exactly what was used for the omelette part but it was certainly mild in egg flavour but still very tasty.

It was topped with a stack of lentils along with a mint sauce which I can’t say I really tasted.

All of this on a bed of baby spinach leaves. A great way to start off the day.

Prior to eating this I had already tucked into the pancakes which you can read more about and the great work Lentil As Anything do.

DEEP FRIED PIZZA WASN’T MY IDEA

When I walked into Bliss & Chips I can honestly say that I had no idea I was about to try a piece of deep fried pizza.

One of my Plant Health Man followers on Facebook had suggested it after giving it a high score on a recent visit. Still I was thinking of getting a burger or some fishless fish and chips.

Deep fried anything is not something that comes to mind when I think of plant health food. Anyway before I knew it a piece appeared on my table.

I was scared, excited and nervous.

After some considerable procrastination, the part of the brain that would have had you thrown in jail years ago if you had listened to it spoke up and said “Just shut up and take a bite!” So I did.

First you get crunch, followed by a intense cheesy hit to the tastebuds, then tomato, the bread based and another layer of crunch.

I took a few more bites just to be sure I had actually bitten into it and unsurprisingly it tasted the same as the first mouthful. I didn’t take it any further and won’t in the future either. Not my thing but that said plenty of people love it. If that sounds like you make a date with Bliss & Chips. If it isn’t, still make a date to go there. They have so many awesome plant based or vegan foods to try. Most are also Gluten Free. Check out the menu below.

Bliss & Chips is on King Street in Newtown, SYDNEY.

GIGI – PIZZE PERFECTION ON A PLATE

Pizza is something that usually involves a dough base topped with some of your favourite ingredients.  Tastes good? Yes.

Whether you make your own or get it from your local pizza place, I can assure you it will not taste as good as one from Gigi in Sydney, AUSTRALIA.

Gigi was a very popular local pizze (as they call it) restaurant in the inner city Newtown when overnight the owner transformed it to a vegan only eatery.

It was 12 months since I had last been to Gigi but was again blown away by their ability to put together simple flavours of plant food ingredients and turn the end result into an explosion of joy for your taste buds.

On this visit I ordered from the specials board. Pizze made with pumpkin puree, asparagus, mushroom, potato and dairy free ricotta cheese.

Pizze perfection!!!

LENTIL AS ANYTHING – PANCAKES FOR GOOD

Walking into Lentil As Anything automatically puts a smile on your face.

It’s a community based food outlet run almost entirely by volunteers. The menu is simple with just a few choices each time.

There are no prices because there is no cost listed. You are simply asked to pay what you think it was worth or as they put it….make a donation.

If you’re not smiling enough once you’ve sat down at the communal style tables, you will be when your meal is brought out to you.

I tried the pancakes with nectarine and vanilla sauce. It came with just the right amount of maple syrup and garnished with some dessicated coconut. This was teamed up with a refreshing and energising glass of mix juice (apple, watermelon and orange).

BLISS & CHIPS – CREAMING SODA ICE CREAM SPIDER

I don’t know about you but it has been a decade or two since I have had an ice cream spider.

A visit to Bliss & Chips on King Street in Newtown has just changed that.

Bundaberg Creaming Soda with ice cream and not just any old ice cream. They use the good stuff Over The Moo! Take your pick of flavours. I chose vanilla.

I have a bubbly creamy mouthful of flavour swirling around and down and the childhood memories came flooding back.
