This photo sums up the first 40 odd years of my life.
Yes I ate plenty of things over the years but the number one food I consumed was bread and cheese.
The photo below is what was served up to me at New York City’s Carnegie Deli when I order a plain cheese sandwich on wholewheat bread.
It had 22 slices of cheese on it. Despite my love of bread and cheese even I didn’t eat it.
Fast forward to mid 2014. I was morbidly obese with type 2 diabetes. I made the decision to do something about my health.
The brief version of the story from here is I found a new doctor who recommended I try a plant based diet. Once I read the McDougall Plan there was no doubt a plant based lifestyle was for me.
After just six weeks the results spoke for themselves. My blood sugar average had dropped by 3 points, my cholesterol was under 2 (good is between 3.5 and 5) and the amount of fat in my blood went from dangerously high to almost into the high end of normal. On top of this within several months I had lost 15 kilos.
I have since lost a few more kilos and maintained it for three years and my plant based life goes on. Inspired by the results, and improvements still to occur, I decided to create this website to encourage others to follow the same path.
